Helping Animals through Healing

My boy, Bo, is my world. It wasn’t until he came into my life in 2018 that I realised exactly how special animals are and what beautiful souls they have.

It has become my life’s mission to help animals in any way I can and becoming an Animal Reiki Practitioner means that I can help to heal animals big and small anywhere in the world.

What does Animal Reiki help with?

As with humans, Reiki can benefit animals with physical, mental, behavioural or emotional issues. Reiki can also benefit animals that have sustained injuries or that are recovering from surgery. Many of my animal clients are animals that struggle with issues such as separation anxiety, arthritis, gastrointestinal issues, fear-based aggression, nervousness, injured or recovering from recent operations.

Reiki is not a magical cure and is not an alternative to conventional veterinary care; but it is a natural, calm therapy that promotes the body’s natural process of self-healing and is enjoyed by many animals.

Rather than just working on the animal client, I also offer Reiki to the owner or carer. Animals are very sensitive to energy and without realising it, if their owners or carers are stressed or anxious, their animals pick up on this and it can trigger or exacerbate emotional and behavioural issues in them. As a result, there is a need to sometimes work with both the owner and the animal to help resolve an animal’s issue. This can also be a lovely bonding experience.

What happens during a session?

Prior to the session, I will contact you about your animal to obtain some further information. This will include details about the animal, the reason Reiki is sought, the animal’s character, temperament, a brief case history and any diagnoses, whether or not Reiki has been offered before, and if so, further relevant details.

The Animal Reiki treatment is non-diagnostic, non-interventionist, non-manipulative and no pressure is applied. I will energetically obtain permission from the animal prior to the session and stop the session when the animal no longer wishes to receive Reiki energy.

If I am visiting the animal in their surroundings, I tend to do so when it is a quiet time for the animal with minimal distractions for them. If I am performing a distance session, I prefer the owner or carer to schedule this at a time when the animal is most likely relaxing. I will then feedback after the session has taken place.

Reiki may be experienced as a flow of energy, mild tingling, warmth, coolness, other sensations, or nothing at all. The animal may sleep or drink more than usual after a session.

The length of Reiki sessions may vary, but are usually 30-45 minutes if receiving distance Reiki or one hour to one and a half hours in duration if it’s a hands on treatment.

How often are sessions required?

Even one single Reiki session can make a difference. However, a course of regular treatments may be more effective. These may be weekly, fortnightly or less often depending on the needs of the animal. Every animal is unique and this will be reflected in their healing needs.
